Annual Picnic

Tug o War

The next picnic:
February 2018

One Tree Hill/Maungakiekie Domain (near Stardome Planetarium)

670 Manukau Road, Royal Oak, Auckland

BYO picnic, lots of enthusiasm and smiles.

Bring extended families, friends considering homeschooling, etc.

In 2017 we celebrated 20 years since AHE began.  We held some special activities to mark the day:

  • a concert with Nathan King (former lead singer of Zed; presenter for World Vision’s Kids for Kids concerts – and home-schooling Dad)
  • a magic show
  • Jiggles the Clown
  • a Talent Show by our (your!) own home-schooled kids
  • Tug ‘o’ War, Soccer, Kite-flying

It was a fantastic day with over 300 people attending.

Join us next year – bring along your picnic lunch and a rug – plus a kite if the wind is good. We always hold a regular soccer match and Tug-O-War. You can join in a Swap’n’Sell of home-school resources (Note: this is not a setting for other business activity).

Come along to meet new people, catch up with friends and find out what’s on for the year.  We’d love to see you there.
Everyone’s welcome, and you’re encouraged to invite a partner, wider family, neighbours and supporters, if only for a short time.  Even sceptics can be persuaded to drop in to gain a better understanding of your community, all with the help of a huge third party! We’re constantly thrilled to see the relieved smiles on dad/grandma’s face when they see how many others enjoy this minority lifestyle! And remember to invite that someone you know who’s considering home education. So much networking goes on for both new and established families.

Auckland Home Educators Inc has been holding this annual get together since the year 2000 when it was originally the “Not Going Back To School!” Day. It’s held in early February and is now Auckland’s largest home-school get-together, drawing together families from across the Greater Auckland region and beyond. Largely in the form of a BYO picnic, a programme of activities for all ages has been incorporated over recent years.

It’s a great networking opportunity, catch up with old friends from the greater part of Auckland and beyond.
